I ran across this article on the NPR blog about a set of proposed new regulations for the timber industry in Alabama. The regulations are aimed at curbing timber theft, and would be imposed by the Alabama Forestry Commission. The regulations are geared toward protecting the timberland owner. Some industry professionals have taken issue with the language of the regulations because they believe that it is too broad. If the regulations go into force, then it is almost certain to be challenged in court.
